i am such a slack blogger lately, but one of my resolutions is to blog more, not for anyone who reads it (if there is anyone? ha...) but for myself, so i can remember every detail of the next half year. the first half year went by WAY too quickly.
which brings me to my first point. on friday, i will have officially lived in taiwan for a half year. six months. 25 weeks. i am shocked by this figure! i can't understand where the time went? it really seems like it was just yesterday that i was starting student teaching (which was a year ago--omg) and it really seems like yesterday that i was getting on a plane to go to england (which was THREE years ago--omggggggg). and now the halfway point has come... and i literally cannot believe it. now that its 2010, its also weird to think that (if i come home ;) i'll be coming home THIS year instead of NEXT year. and that i only have a half year to cram all the things i want to do into! ahhh!
annnnnnnnd, happy 2010! i spent the craziest new year's eve so far in taipei, right underneath 101 (which only recently lost its title as the world's tallest building) in the middle of a huge concert, and i'm pretty sure everyone on the island was also there. i have never in my life been in such a crowd. but it was so exciting! its the taiwan equivalent to times square. there were bright lights everywhere, and everyone was so happy, there was fake snow (the closest we will EVER get in taiwan ;) and a concert with S.H.E. and mayday and a bunch of people i don't know. the mrt (the subway) was also so crowded that i'm suprised the trains could even move. i am still trying to get over the massive crowds. taipei is always a little snug, but i have really never seen anything like this. ever. anyway, around midnight, we started counting down in chinese (which i had been practicing, i'm so embarrassed to admit that), then they turned off all the lights of 101 and started a beautiful fireworks show! it was so amazing.
after the countdown, we went back to mary's apartment and had a sleepover/movie marathon. we watched secret, which is a jay chou original movie ;) and it was soooooo so so so so good. so good in fact that the next day, the second after we woke up (after eating lunch at mosburger of course) we ran to taipei to buy the dvd and the soundtrack! i have almost worn the soundtrack out, acutally. we also tried to make it through cape no. 7, but fell asleep at around 7am. happy new year! i will never forget this one.
my 23rd birthday is in 5 days. this year, i will be spending it at danshui (!!!!) rather than in a laudromat washing 230482304823 sheets and blankets for the international students. blehhh. but on the bright side, friday also marks only 5 weeks until the chinese new year holidays, which i am MEGA-looking forward to, #1 because i will get to spend chinese new year in a chinese country, and #2 because RACHEL IS COMING TO VISIT and we are going to travel around the island which i'm sure will be a huge adenture ;) and then in late march/early april, jen is coming to visit and we are going to do some travelling as well as go to spring scream, which is a huge taiwanese music festival!!!! and then after that, i'm making the pilgrimage to japan...i can't believe its already 2010! and that decemeber (which lived up to its name-TRULY THE MONTH OF DREAMS!) is already over. 2009 was the most eventful year of my life...how can 2010 possibly be any better?! here's hoping... ;)
