today when i came back to my apartment, it took me longer than normal to get the key in the slot and open the door because i had my hands full. during this time, i took a minute to look around at my neighbours' apartments.
i realised that i am the only one who doesn't have 234802348230 pairs of shoes lined up outside the door. i know that in asia one is supposed to take off their shoes upon going inside any room/house, but i am american, and for me, lining up all your shoes outside the door where you can't see them is the equivalent of putting up a sign on your door that says "its unlocked and i'm not home, ROB ME!" i do take my shoes off when i come inside, and i will feel very strange in america to keep my shoes on when going into someone's house. however, i don't think i will ever be able to leave my shoes outside in the middle of the hallway. number one because i just own too many pairs (ha) and number two, because of the aforementioned burglary sign thing.
