today at work, one of my students gave me a letter she had written to me, which was just the sentences we had been learning written over and over again. there was a picture of me drawn along with two dogs and a hi-chew (candy) taped to the bottom. when she handed it to me, i have to confess that i almost cried. all my life i have worked with kids, and i have spent the last 4 years learning how to be a good teacher, but nothing prepares you for those kind of moments...sometimes, they seem few and far between and at others, you think...'yes, this is it. i'm doing the right thing with my life.' i know every bit of me was meant to be a teacher, and every day, this is re-confirmed to me one way or another. today i walked in class and one of my students randomly said, 'teacher! you are beautiful!' i just smiled. partly because i truly love the taiwanese pronunciation of that word (its tooo cute), and partly because i was in too good a mood not to.
last night i dreamed that i was in america. i looked up and didn't see any tall buildings like i do here in taiwan, and no one was speaking chinese, and i was really confused. i woke up and it took me a few minutes to realise that i was in taiwan and everything was still the same. which kind of disturbed me a little bit, i dont know why.
i would chop off my right arm if i could go to artistika with everyone tomorrow night.
